Delta Is Now Skipping First Class by Offering Private Jet Upgrades - Contrarie
Usually if you’re a frequent flyer with an airline, you get upgraded to the first class cabin fairly easily, well Delta is now stepping their game up by offering your own private flight as an upgrade. The new upgrade program, is targeting what Delta considers “high value customers” and is not free (sadly), upgrades will range from $300-$800 depending on destination. Passengers who have achieved elite or “medallion” status in Delta’s SkyMiles (frequent flyer) program, will now be eligible for the upgrade offers. Delta’s Private Jet unit has admitted that the initial number of private jet flights will be small and focused mostly at Delta’s East Coast hubs. Delta hopes that this program will help alleviate the costly problem in private aviation, empty leg trips, the cost to move a jet without a customer heading to that location. At first, Delta’s top customer, those at the highest “Diamond Medallion” level, which can be met by spending $15000 at Delta, and travel at least 125,000 miles, or 140 segments a year will be invited to purchase the upgrades, but it will eventually open up and expand to people even in the lowest elite tier.
