Markus "Notch" Persson is Planning on Leaving Mojang (and Minecraft) Behind To Save His Sanity - Contrarie
Microsoft officially announced that it has purchased Mojang, the Swedish company behind the extremely popular game Minecraft today. The creator Markus “Notch” Persson, the creator of the game is planning on leaving the company once the deal is finalized. Persson has had mixed emotions about the success of Minecraft as detailed in his blog post. On his decision for leaving he writes: “It’s not about the money. It’s about my sanity.” He just wanted to create games because it is fun and he loves games and loves to program and he doesn’t make games for the intention of them becoming huge hits. He also notes that he has wanted to step down from development for Minecraft for a while, but he was convinced that he was important for the culture of Minecraft so he stayed around. According to Mojango’s blog, Carl Manneh and H. Jakob Porsér, two other founders of Mojang, are leaving as well. In Persson’s note, he mentions that Jens Bergensten was the perfect person to take over development of Minecraft, when he wanted to try new things.
