Mercedes Benz officially showed off its replacement for the SLS AMG today. While priced not as high as the SLS AMG due to the fact that Mercedes Benz is hoping that this car will compete against the Porsche 911 segment of the market, the car borrows a lot of technology from the SLS. The similarities between the new Mercedes-AMG GT and the SLS AMG include the long hood anda shared transmission (although the gearing has been modified). The Mercedes0-AMG GT however loses the gullwing doors that the SLS has in favor of a traditional door, both for cost reasons, and we assume to protect the uniqueness of the SLS model. The car will be produced in two different variants, a GT model and a GT S model, both engines being based off of AMG’s brand new M178 twin-turbocharged 4.0 liter V8. The base GT model will make 456 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 443 lb-ft of torque between 1600 to 5000 rpm, while the GT S model will produce 503 horsepower at 6250 rpm and 478 lb-ft of torque between 1750-4750 rpm.
